Fed Hall Drag Ball – Saturday, Oct 23rd!

It’s time for GLOW’s Fall term drag show! Come out for a fun night of male and female impersonation, both professional and amateur. Feel free to dress up in drag too. Afterwards, dance the night away as Fed Hall becomes a dance hall!

Nadia Diamond, a local professional drag queen holding the title of Miss Tri-Pride 2010 will be hosting and DJ Furious George will be spinning all night.

Important Info:

  • Doors open at 8:00P; Show begins at 9:00P
  • Suggested donation of $5 to fund future Drag Shows and GLOW’s 40th Anniversary Celebration
  • All ages for UW students; bring your WATCARD!
  • Bar access for 19+
  • Non-students welcome when accompanied by a WATCARD holder (2 students per UW students

Coming Out Week 2010!

Coming Out Week is a week to, well, come out!
Grab your friends and get out on campus, queer or not!
There will be a variety of grand queer-themed activities happening from Sunday, October 10th to Saturday, October 16th.

  • Tuesday, October 12

Event: Opening Ceremonies
Time: 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Location: SLC Great Hall
To officially kick off Coming Out Week, someone from UW administration and from Feds will speak about the importance of queer issues on campus. The service coordinators will speak about GLOW and outline the events happening throughout the week.

Event: Special Tuesday Movie Mayhem Night (partnering with WPIRG)
Time: 7:00pm to 10:00pm
Location: AL 124
We’ll be showing the movie “Get Real”, a classic coming out story in queer cinema. Snacks will be provided!

  • Wednesday, October 13

Event: Queer Alphabet Exhibit
Time: 10:00am to 4:00pm
Location: SLC Great Hall
A display will be put up in the SLC showcasing different queer terminology and issues. A GLOW volunteer will be present to answer any questions.

Event: Wednesday Night Discussion Group
Time: 7:15pm to 8:30pm
Location: PAS 3005
Topic: Queer Gazette (Coming Out stories will be brought in and discussed)

Event: AfterGLOW Social
Time: 8:45pm to 10:00pm
Location: UW Grad House
A social to meet other queer and queer-friendly people!

Event: Flag Guard
Time: 10:00pm – Overnight
Location: SLC Multipurpose Room
“Flag Guard” is a traditional event held during Coming Out Week where attendees are encouraged to stay overnight to “guard” the pride flag that will be hanging in the SLC. We might show a couple of movies, play a few games, and snacks will be served.

  • Thursday, October 14

Event: Ally Reception
Time: 2:00pm to 3:00pm
Location: SLC Multipurpose Room
This event is a mixer targeted at queer allies on campus. Services (e.g. Health Services, Counselling Services) will be invited to have information booths at our event. This will tie in to our Paper Panel which will be held at 3:00pm.

Event: Paper Panel
Time: 3:00pm to 4:00pm
Location: SLC Great Hall
Three to five speakers will be invited to sit on panel and discuss research relating to queer issues. Follows the Ally Reception held earlier.

  • Friday, October 15

Event: Amazing Race
Time: 12:00pm to 4:00pm
Location: Begins in the SLC Great Hall
Open-minded individuals are encouraged to grab a friend and sign up for the Amazing Race! Starting in the SLC Great Hall, teams will be racing around campus and participating in events to have a good time! Events include: putting condoms on fruit and drag racing.

Event: GLOW Bonfire
Time: 7:00pm to 10:00pm
Location: Environment Firepit (on Laurel Creek across from Environment 2)
As part of our week wrap-up, GLOW will be hosting a bonfire to give everyone a chance to mingle and roast some marshmallows. Rain date: Sunday, October 17th (If the weather is poor).

  • Saturday, October 16

Event: Drag Picnic (Hosted by Sapphic Monday)
Time: 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Location: Meet at GLOW Office, Picnic at St. Jerome’s
Picnics are awesome, but this isn’t just any picnic – why not have a picnic in drag? Come out to this special Sapphic Mondays event (special because it’s on a Saturday and everyone is encouraged to come) to have a picnic while wearing a moustache and/or wig! Gendered clothes and accessories will be provided, so you don’t have to come dressed up.
If it’s raining, the picnic will be in the GLOW Office.

Toronto Pride – Important Information

Hey hey,

Just a few reminders about Toronto Pride, which is on July 4, 2010:

  1. Tickets are still on sale at the Feds Office if you want to take the bus to & from Toronto; Roundtrip is $5 for UW students; $10 for Non-UW.
    - We will be departing from Davis Centre at 9:30 am and arriving at Jarvis and Carlton St at 11 am
    - In the evening, we will be  departing from Jarvis & Carlton St. at 9:30 pm and arriving back at Davis Centre at 11 pm.
  2. If you plan on marching in the parade with GLOW, we have to be at the check-in point at 12:45 pm, which is Bloor St. and Ted Rogers Way. We will be leaving from Jarvis & Carlton to the check-in point at 12:15 pm (so meet us at Jarvis and Carlton before 12:15 pm!)
  3. Since the theme is “Back to the Future,” wear something futuristic and crazy (Lady Gaga-esque, Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera, Kelis style) or come wearing “University of Waterloo” t-shirts and support the school!
    - GLOW thought it might be a good idea to wear trash bags as dresses/t-shirts with some bold, colorful accessories (Ke$ha style). If you would like to be a part of this, email me at: p.jalundhwala {at} hotmail(.)com.

GLOW does Toronto Pride! – Sunday, July 4th!

GLOW has arranged for a bus to go to Toronto for The 30th Annual Toronto Pride Parade. The bus will be leaving early in the day and returning late in the evening, so individuals will have plenty of time to explore the different festivities going on, as well as the parade which happens starting at 2pm.

GLOW will also be marching in the parade itself, and everyone is encouraged to join us! Our theme this year is “Back to the Future” (this means deck yourselves out in the wackiest, most futuristic gear you can think of!).

Ticket Info:

$5 UW Undergrad
$10 Non-UW Undergrad

* These prices are ROUND-TRIP. This is an INCREDIBLY good deal!!!
** Tickets are on sale NOW at the Feds front desk – limited seating is available, so get your tickets now!

Departure/Return Info:

LEAVE from Davis Centre at 9:30am (aim to be there 15 minutes early!), ARRIVE at Jarvis St. and Carlton St. at approximately 11:00am
LEAVE from Jarvis St. and Carlton St. at 9:30pm (same day – again, aim to be early), ARRIVE at Davis Centre at approximately 11:00pm

THIS Friday, June 25th at 7pm in the GLOW Office

Bonfire Will Go On!

Just as a confirmation: the bonfire WILL be happening tonight, Monday June 7, from 830-1130 pm at Columbia Lake!
 
Remember:
- No alcohol .. or you will be asked to leave
- Bring your own roastables/lawn chairs/etc.
- If you would like, meet me at the GLOW office by 8 pm to head over to the lake.

GLOW Bonfire Rescheduled – June 7th!

Hope you all enjoyed tri-pride week! As you probably know by now we unfortunately had to cancel GLOW’s bonfire on Friday due to rain. HOWEVER, we are rescheduling the bonfire to this Monday, starting at 8:30pm and at the same location (firepit by Columbia Lake, nearest to Columbia St. W.). Please check your inbox/GLOW’s website Monday afternoon as confirmation for the event will be posted then.
