GLOW - The Queer and Questioning Community Centre

Due to low enrollment and also some changes coming to GLOW’s training process, we have cancelled the training session that was scheduled for Friday, December 3rd. Our apologies for any inconvenience! We hope that you will all keep your eyes out for information on training coming up in Winter 2011.

GLOW is offering an additional Volunteer Training Session next Friday, December 3rd from 2:30-6:00pm in SLC 3103. This session goes over an introduction to queer terminology and issues, as well as peer support techniques.

The session is mandatory in order to hold:

• Office hours
• Phone line hours
• Leadership position

If interested, please RSVP to glow {at} glow.feds(.)ca. Space is limited, so RSVP as soon as you can!

Volunteer Training

This training is mandatory for all those wishing to hold office hours or take on a Board of Directors role with GLOW. If you plan on attending one of these sessions please RSVP to glow {at} feds.uwaterloo(.)ca, stating which session you will be attending. The two sessions are scheduled for:

1) Thursday, Sept. 30th, 2:30-6:00pm, SLC 3103
2) Saturday, Oct. 2nd, 12:00-3:30pm, SLC 3103

Committees

Training is NOT mandatory in order to join any of the following committees. If you would like to join a committee, e-mail Greg at gademaci {at} uwaterloo(.)ca, stating which committee you would like to join. Committee members will be contacted by Directors with specific volunteer opportunities via e-mail. The various committees are:

- Coming Out Week
- Fed Hall Drag Ball
- Trans* Awareness Week
- Marketing
- Library and Resources
- Ally Training Sessions
- Winter Term Events Planning (i.e. February campaign week and GLOW’s 40th anniversary)

On Monday, September 27th GLOW will be holding a Volunteer Meet and Greet from 6-8pm in PAS 3005. This will be a great opportunity to meet and chat with some of our existing volunteers, and find out more about where you might want to get involved with GLOW. Free food and pop will be provided! Hello everyone,

I am very happy to announce the latest addition to our Fall Executive – Jesse McLinton! Jesse will be our new Director of Marketing and Communications, and as such will be responsible for our posters, website, Facebook page among other things. Welcome to the team Jesse!

We still have one position open for the fall term which is the Director of Social Affairs position. This Director’s primary responsibilities would be to oversee any social events during Coming Out Week and Trans* Awareness Week, as well as our Drag Me to Bomber event.

I want to make it clear that although we cite experience with GLOW/other queer organizations as a criteria in our selection of Directors, this is not a mandatory criteria you need to posess in order to apply. As part of GLOW’s Board of Directors you will be surrounded by a group of very knowledgeable people who are there to help. Adam and I have also been working on additional resources to provide to Directors (including an Executive Manual and Status Reports), which should make it easier for Directors to fulfill their duties.

From now on we will be accepting applications for Director of Social Affairs on an ongoing basis until we are able to fill the position. Below is once again how to apply:
