Just a heads up that, now with exam period descended upon us, office hours for the GLOW office will be sporadic and so far unscheduled. If you would like to speak with an office volunteer, feel free to contact the GLOW mailbox at glow {at} glow.feds(.)ca, and we can schedule you an appointment. You can also call our administrative line at 519-888-4567 ext. 38569 to see if a volunteer is in the office.

Just a quick note to let you all know that the GLOW Office will be open for regular scheduled hours through till the last day of classes, Wednesday July 28th, despite the current construction going on in the SLC. The construction is currently blocking the entrance beside the Bomber. However, there is another stairwell that leads to the hallway in which the office is located close to where Tim Hortons is. The office can also be accessed by the ramp that is behind Wasabi and Curry Up.

Modified hours will be offered after July 28th until the end of the exam period. Once these are determined the information will be posted on our website.

I am incredibly happy and excited to announce the newest additions to our GLOW Leadership Team. The following individuals have shown great enthusiasm and the potential to bring GLOW to new heights, and I look forward to working with each and every one of them come the fall term.

Without further ado…

Tabitha Viscontas will be assuming the role of Director of Education. Tabitha has been a volunteer with GLOW for several months now and has shown a keen interest in developing GLOW’s current educational initiatives. In this position Tabitha will be responsible for facilitating and updating the Ally Training program, as well as organizing educational events throughout the term.

Divyesh Mistry will be our new Director of Peer Support and Resources. Divyesh has also been involved with GLOW for almost a year now and has taken initiative in organizing our library books in the past. As Director of Peer Support & Resources Divyesh will be overseeing GLOW’s Peer Support Phone Line, the implementation of a Peer Support Live Chat, and the organization and development of our library and other resources.

And last but not least… Kathy Feick will be the new Tuesday Movie Mayhem Facilitator. Kathy has also volunteered for GLOW in the past, and has been a regular attendee at movie nights. I have no doubt that she will bring a new energy to TMM with her cheerful and friendly attitude.

Still interested in applying for a position? We still have two vacant spots left! The Director of Marketing and Communications and Director of Social Affairs positions are still open. A second call for applications will be made in August for these two roles. Just a few reminders about Toronto Pride, which is on July 4, 2010:

1. Tickets are still on sale at the Feds Office if you want to take the bus to & from Toronto; Roundtrip is $5 for UW students; $10 for Non-UW.
   - We will be departing from Davis Centre at 9:30 am and arriving at Jarvis and Carlton St at 11 am
   - In the evening, we will be  departing from Jarvis & Carlton St. at 9:30 pm and arriving back at Davis Centre at 11 pm.
2. If you plan on marching in the parade with GLOW, we have to be at the check-in point at 12:45 pm, which is Bloor St. and Ted Rogers Way. We will be leaving from Jarvis & Carlton to the check-in point at 12:15 pm (so meet us at Jarvis and Carlton before 12:15 pm!)
3. Since the theme is “Back to the Future,” wear something futuristic and crazy (Lady Gaga-esque, Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera, Kelis style) or come wearing “University of Waterloo” t-shirts and support the school!
   - GLOW thought it might be a good idea to wear trash bags as dresses/t-shirts with some bold, colorful accessories (Ke$ha style). If you would like to be a part of this, email me at: p.jalundhwala {at} hotmail(.)com.

In order to provide better continuity to the service, we’ve decided to begin looking for individuals interested in taking on leadership positions with GLOW for the Fall 2010 term and beyond. For a description of the positions that will be in effect come fall term, please click on this link.

How to apply:

2) Upcoming term(s) for which you will be available (i.e. Fall 2010, Winter 2011, and/or Spring 2011). Preference will be given to those able to serve multiple terms.

Speaking from personal experience, being a Director for GLOW can be an extremely rewarding experience that not only helps develop your leadership skills and pad your resume, but can also serve to fuel personal development and form amazing and lasting friendships. GLOW has arranged for a bus to go to Toronto for The 30th Annual Toronto Pride Parade. The bus will be leaving early in the day and returning late in the evening, so individuals will have plenty of time to explore the different festivities going on, as well as the parade which happens starting at 2pm.

GLOW will also be marching in the parade itself, and everyone is encouraged to join us! Our theme this year is “Back to the Future” (this means deck yourselves out in the wackiest, most futuristic gear you can think of!).
