About GLOW

GLOW is a student-funded and student-run service of the Federation of Students, located at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.  We offer many events and programs to the queer community including a peer support and information phone line, a resource library, ongoing events, awareness campaigns and special events.  Although we are an organization offering services to the queer and trans community and their allies, we are committed to providing a positive and welcoming environment to all respectful and open members of campus community regardless of their identification.

GLOW strives to achieve its mandate through five main services that all of our events and programs fall under:

Advocacy

We work to improve the accessibility and quality of education and the campus environment for queer and trans individuals, and work collaboratively with on-campus partners to create solutions that best serve the needs of queer and trans students.

Community Building

We aim to provide opportunities for queer- and trans-identified students (those who don’t use these labels and allies are welcome too!) to form their own friendship networks with social events.

Education

We work with on-campus partners to provide educational programs that discuss queer and trans identities and how to be supportive of the queer and trans community. We also hold events that are more educational to continue to promote awareness of the queer and trans community and current issues.

Leadership Development

We aim to create and provide opportunities on campus specifically for queer and trans students, and their allies, to develop their leadership skills through volunteer opportunities and leadership workshops specifically tailored to the needs of queer and trans students.

Peer Support

We provide safe, queer-positive, trans-positive and sex-positive spaces on campus with peer-support trained volunteers who can answer questions and provide one-on-one support.
