Happening October 18 through 24, Queer Pride Week 2008 aims to celebrate sexual and gender diversity, encourage greater visibility of the queer community, and raise awareness of coming out issues. We’ll be having events for visibility, education, discussion, and socializing to keep you busy all week!

–Warrior Weekends Drag Show Fundraiser–

Come join GLOW, Warrior Weekends, and Waterloo Region’s most fabulous professional and amateur drag queens for an amazing drag show & fundraiser!
Half of all donations will go to GLOW, and half to ACCKWA (AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Area)

Help promote Queer Pride Week 2008 and queer visibility on campus by chalking the campus! We’ll meet at the GLOW Community Centre (SLC 2101) to hand out chalk and maps.

Following the Queer Positive Chalking, we’ll meet at the GLOW Community Centre (SLC 2101) to hang GLOW’s 45 foot Rainbow Flag in the SLC Atrium. So join us for its unfurling!

The purpose of this “event” is to raise visibility and awareness of the queer community, by illustrating that being queer is an invisible status and just as anyone you know can wear jeans, anyone you know could be queer.

We’ll have former UW’er Kate Daley presenting on educational models that deal with issues of queer discrimination, heterosexism, and examining privilege.
Kate Daley is an honorary member of the Federation of Students, after serving on the Feds Board of Directors during her undergrad. She is currently a Masters candidate in Political Science at Queen’s University.
–Dyketopia Movie Night–

Come join Dyketopia (GLOW Women’s Social Group) for a movie night with snacks, beverages, and good company. We’ll be showing the 1980’s lesbian film “Desert Hearts”.
Summary: It is 1950s Nevada, and Professor Vivian Bell arrives to get a divorce. She’s unsatisfied with her marriage, and feels out of place at the ranch she stays on, she finds herself increasingly drawn to Cay Rivers, an open and self-assured lesbian, and the ranchowner’s daughter. The emotions released by their developing intimacy, and Vivian’s insecurities about her feelings towards Cay, are played out against a backdrop of rocky landscapes and country and western songs.

–Questions from a Hat Wednesday Night Discussion–

As usual, our weekly discussion group will be held on Wednesday. This week is Questions from a Hat. This discussion will give attendees a chance to ask the group questions anonymously. It’s back! Another 24 hours of music and dancing, but with an extra twist this year! GLOW’s 24 Hour Go-Go-A-Thon Fundraiser this year will feature UW Swing & Tango club from 8-10pm. Half of all donations will go to GLOW, and half to Planned Parenthood.
–Ally Network Training–

Are you queer or a queer ally? Then become a part of the GLOW Ally Network and be a visible supporter of sexual and gender diversity on campus!
Attend our one hour training session, join the network, and get a fancy button to show off on your backpack, in your office, or your residence! Let others know that you support sexual and gender diversity, and in doing so you’ll help create a positive environment for queer students.
