    This is the last official Sapphic Monday of the term! We’ll be going to Little Bean Coffee Bar in Kitchener, a queer-friendly establishment, for your choice of free food (not just snacks, but a whole meal free of charge!). Everyone who has come to Sapphic in the past is encouraged to come out. meet at GLOW at 6pm as usual. We’ll be leaving at 6:30, so meet us at the cafe around 7pm or later if you can’t make it in time.

Book: Dykes to Watch Out For
Author: Alison Bechdel
Description: The GLOW library has several volumes of Bechdel’s comic strip, also entitled Dykes to Watch Out For. In Bechdel’s words, the series is “half op-ed column and half endless, serialized Victorian novel.”

    Film Description: About a South African AIDS activist who goes on a treatment strike, refusing to take his pills until they are widely available to all South Africans. This symbolic act becomes known and helps build his group Treatment Action Campaign in a national movement.

Book: Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out
Editors: Loraine Hutchins and Lani Kaahumanu
Description: This groundbreaking 1991 anthology features fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and art by over 70 bisexual people. The book was critical to the modern bisexual rights movement and was named one of the Lambda Book Report’s Top 100 Queer Books of the 20th Century.

  • Event: queerSAY: Homophobia and Transphobia on Campus
    Time: 1:00pm to 3:00pm
    Location: SLC Great Hall

    This event will start off with a fantastic set of panelists who have amazing experiences of activism and community service to share – from GLOW’s beginnings to the current campus climate, from previous Coordinators to current community activists. After an hour of speaking, the focus will shift to the audience who will be able to ask questions, make comments, share concerns and experiences and provide recommendations for how GLOW can continue to work against homophobia and transphobia on campus, and can actively work with the Waterloo Region community.

    Bring friends, family, classmates, professors, volunteers, staff, teachers, trustees and community members. Let’s combat homophobia and transphobia on our campus and in our community as a community!

Tuesday, March 8: GLOW’s 40th Birthday!

  • Tuesday is GLOW’s official birthday, and we’re throwing an official birthday party to go with it! We’ll be having films, fun, and a cake fit to jump out of (and if you’re around at 1pm, you may even get to see someone do just that).

    All activities will be taking place in the SLC Great Hall!
    Come on out and party like it’s 1971!

  • Event: Drag Me to the Bomber

    Location: The Bombshelter Pub (Bomber) in SLC
    This term’s on-campus Drag Show is moving back to The Bomber!

    Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm.
    This event is all ages for UW students, but 19+ for non-UW students.

    There will be both professional and amateur king and queen performances with hosts Miss Drew from Club Renaissance and Hamilton’s Nikki Davis.

    The show is only $5 at the door!
    Alcohol will be served until 11pm and there will be a dance party after the show!
